AYSO Section 5 SuperCamp 2000

Each summer, AYSO Area 5B sponsors a Referee/Coach SuperCamp.  This is hosted on the grounds of  Maryville College in Maryville, TN, south of Knoxville.  This year's SuperCamp will be the weekend of August 4th, 5th and 6th (Friday evening through Sunday noon.)  This is an excellent chance for you to take advanced referee courses or learn how to become a Referee Instructor.

This year's plans include Referee courses for National 2, Section and Area badge upgrades.  If there is not sufficient interest in any of the courses, that course(s) will be deferred.

There also will be a Grade 3 (Transition) Instructor course for Referees and Coaches. Prerequisites for the G3(T) are:

For Referees:

For Coaches:

We hope to include a Safe Haven Certification class for referees, probably Saturday evening. Also there may be an Advanced Coaches Course during the weekend depending on sufficient demand. Details on this from Greg Barker and Tom Kohntopp.

It is important that I have feed back from you and your regional administrators as soon as possible. We will need to make a go/no-go decision by July 15th for SRC and ARC.

The courses being held this year are (tentative):

Instructor Transition Courses:

Transition courses are used to transition current instructors from the old system to the new "graded" one.  Transition into this new unified program will occur over a three-year period.  During the transition years, all current instructors will have opportunities to access the additional instruction skills needed to meet the requirements established for the unified program.  During the transition phase, current instructors will continue to teach the courses they are certified to lead.   This means that for the next three years (until May, 2001) you may continue to lead the courses you are authorized to lead under the current system.

There is NO automatic GRANDFATHERING into the unified instructor program.  During the three year period from April 1998 through April 2001, AYSO will be offering short transition courses.  By taking the appropriate transition path, you become registered as a unified instructor at the grade (5-2) appropriate for your current instructor level.  We hope that all AYSO instructors will decide to complete the transition within the three-year period and continue to certify volunteers for AYSO.

The Grade 4 Transition course is designed for current referee instructors who successfully completed the BRIP (Basic Referee Instructor Program), certifying them to teach the Regional Referee course.
